Confirmed: Roma appoint club legend De Rossi as Mourinho’s replacement

Roma have officially announced the appointment of club legend Daniele De Rossi as their new head coach until the end of the season.

The decision comes hours after José Mourinho was axed from the club due to series of defeats in the Italian topflight league.

In an official statement on Monday afternoon, Roma stated their delight welcoming back De Rossi, who enjoyed an illustrious 18-year playing career with the club.

De Rossi is set to take charge of his first game as head coach in Roma’s upcoming Serie A match against Verona at the Stadio Olimpico.

The club’s owners, Dan and Ryan Friedkin, expressed their confidence in De Rossi’s leadership and ambition, citing his strong bond with the club as a key factor in his appointment.

De Rossi, a Roma academy graduate, made 616 appearances and scored 63 goals for the club, ranking second in the club’s all-time appearance record.

He also enjoyed success at the international level, representing Italy in numerous major competitions, including the 2006 World Cup, which Italy won.

After retiring from professional football, De Rossi ventured into coaching, previously serving on the Italian national team’s coaching staff and later taking on the role of head coach at SPAL.
