EPL: De Gea appears to hit out at Manchester United in cryptic tweet

David de Gea has left Manchester United fans confused with a cryptic tweet he shared about his future, almost a week after his contract with the English club expired.

The 32-year-old Spaniard officially departed Old Trafford last Friday upon the expiry of his contract. United were initially keen to tie him down to a new deal and an agreement was found on fresh terms on reduced wages.

The Spaniard had put pen to paper on a new contract, only to see the Red Devils retract that offer. A new agreement has not yet been found, leading to the goalkeeper’s departure amid links to Saudi Arabia.

Six days after the expiration of his contract and just as the rest of Manchester United squad turned up for their first day of pre-season, De Gea took to social media to share a cryptic tweet.

De Gea posted an emoji of a juggler on social media, suggesting that he has many options to choose from this summer. This sparked a reaction from fans.

Al-Nassr are one of the clubs reportedly considering a move for De Gea. The Saudi Arabian club finished second last season, five points behind Al-Ittihad, and have Cristiano Ronaldo in their armoury.

De Gea has also been linked with a return to Spain, 12 years after leaving Atletico Madrid. The Spanish shot-stopper made 84 appearances for Atletico before securing a big-money move to United in 2011.

During his time at Manchester United, De Gea was a fantastic servant, winning the Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup. He also played more than 500 matches.

United have lately been interested in signing Inter Milan’s Andre Onana this summer and are in talks with the Italian club.

The Red Devils believe that a package deal worth a total of £45m will be enough to entice the Nerazzurri into selling the Cameroon international.

Erik ten Hag is keen on a goalkeeper that can play out from the back and is good with his feet. Ten Hag knows Onana well from their time together at Ajax and fits his way of playing perfectly.
