A young Nigerian man calls out an athlete who sold his medal to an oyinbo man for N4K at the Lagos City Marathon on Saturday.

A Kenyan runner clinched the first position and won the grand prize of $50,000, while two other Kenyan athletes won second and third place also and received $30,000 and $20,000 respectively.

One of the other participants who simply won a medal for their effort caught the attention of many after selling it to a caucasian man for N4K.

In a now-viral video, the athlete who sold his medal got called out for putting effort into a race only to sell the result cheaply.

“Nigerians with their characters. Imagine selling your medal fo 4K, what a shame. After running and investing effort in the race,” a fellow participant in the video stated.

The video has since generated a wave of reactions from users who likened it to the slave trade era in Africa.
