La Liga: Celta Vigo sack former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez

Former Liverpool and Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez, has been relieved of his duties as the manager of Spanish side Celta Vigo.

Benitez was appointed last summer with high expectations, but his tenure has been marred by disappointing results, leaving Celta just two points above the relegation zone.

The decision to sack Benitez comes after series of poor performances, with the final straw being a 4-0 defeat to Real Madrid.

Despite a midtable budget, Celta has only managed to win five league games this season, putting them in a tough position in the league.

Benitez’s departure was somewhat expected, with reports of disagreements between the manager and players over the team’s style of play.

Football Espana also reports that fans at Balaidos have also been vocal in their displeasure, calling for Benitez’s exit for months.

The club are reportedly looking at B team manager Claudio Giraldez as a potential replacement, given the financial constraints of sacking Benitez, which would cost them around €9 million.
