West Ham to delay announcing Lopetegui as new boss, but deal to be finalized in 24hrs

Julen Lopetegui is on the verge of signing a contract with West Ham, with an initial two-year deal believed to be in the works.

Despite fierce competition, including interest from AC Milan and Bayern Munich, the former Real Madrid manager is poised to take over at the London Stadium.

While a verbal agreement was reached earlier this week, the formal announcement of Lopetegui’s appointment might be delayed out of respect for outgoing manager David Moyes.

West Ham owner David Sullivan has reportedly led the pursuit of Lopetegui, despite sporting director Tim Steidten and club legend Mark Noble favouring Ruben Amorim as Moyes’ successor.

With Moyes departing after four-and-a-half years in charge, West Ham had announced they would withhold further comments until a new appointment is confirmed.

However, Lopetegui is expected to finalize the remaining details of his contract withing the next 24 hours.

Returning to the Premier League almost a year after leaving his job at Wolves, Lopetegui is seen by West Ham as the right fit for the position.
