Chelsea are in mourning following the passing of Tommy Baldwin, an icon in the club’s history, at the age of 78.

Baldwin, who also played for Arsenal, Manchester United, and Brentford during his career, passed away after a reported prolonged illness.

During his time at Chelsea from 1966 to 1974, Baldwin made a significant impact, scoring 73 goals in 187 appearances.

He was known for his sharpshooting skills and deep support for the team. Baldwin was part of the Chelsea squad that won the FA Cup in 1970 and the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1971.

Despite his success at Chelsea, Baldwin’s time at the club came to an end in 1974 due to a disagreement with then-manager Dave Sexton.

He later had brief spells at Millwall and Manchester United before venturing into non-league football with Gravesend & Northfleet.

Baldwin also had a stint with the Seattle Sounders in the United States before returning to England to play for Brentford.

After retiring from playing, he remained involved in football, working as a coach at Brentford and later becoming a familiar face at Stamford Bridge, where he served as a match-day host.

Despite his achievements at Chelsea and elsewhere, Baldwin never received a call-up to the England national team.
